Metro South Health have contracted Kane Property Services (KPS) on multiple projects for Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital.
Initially, KPS was contracted to deliver the refurbishment of a portion of the QEII Hospital whilst it operates 24/7, to remove asbestos and to accommodate a refurbished kitchen, several bathrooms and hallways. The works were split into three key separable portions to maintain a fully functional hospital at all times. The refurbishment of the kitchen was broken into six stages to allow other utilised areas to function effectively.
In addition to this programme, an upgrade of passive and active fire systems throughout the operational hospital is required, including design and installation of new stair pressurisation systems and a smoke exhaust system. The challenges brought by working in a live environment have become the team’s greatest achievement. Not only day-to-day, but hour-to-hour, the site team works with the hospital to action dust control measures, system isolations and hoarding to protect staff and public.
All project stakeholders have taken an active role in collaborating to safeguard any potential issues for these QEII projects.
