The Caloundra Private Hospital has undergone a significant conversion from an existing hospital ward to a modern mental health facility, delivering 24 individual rooms with new fittings and fixtures for Ramsay Health Care. This project was a challenging one, with the KPS team working adjacent to a live hospital environment throughout the duration and ensuring no disruption to the daily operations of the existing hospital. The Renal Dialysis ward is within the same building and constant consideration of the patients, their medical requirements and the treatment facilities was essential.
New common areas for the facility were constructed and existing areas refurbished for patient and staff use, including a meeting room, group room and a lounge area. A functional laundry designed for client use was also part of the design and construct contract.
Intricacies of the construction involved minimising dust and subcontractor disruptions; reconfiguring bedrooms and wardrobes to save space; finding tiling solutions for the refurbishment of ensuites in each room; minimising patient safety risks including a complete anti-ligature point fitout; and establishing a medication dispensary. The project team was able to successfully achieve the milestones within the tight programme timetable.
